There are a litany of feelings and emotions that you are going to have but in order to achieve the best outcome for you and your kids you need to follow a few basic custody battle tips to keep some type of calm during the storm.
(1.) Be Proactive
Having a plan reduces anxiety.
(2.) Pay Your Child Support
No matter what! Even if you are waiting for a modification or feel as though the amount is wrong whatever the circumstances may be, always keep current on your child support until you have a court order changing it. Once you get behind you can be in for a drawn-out fight in court.
(3.) Be Involved
Keep track of all important dates and events for your child; attend parent-teacher conferences, doctor appointments, recitals, sporting events. Know the names of your children’s doctors, coaches, teachers, etc.
(4.) Spend Time with Your Children
This is important for everyone — especially the children.
(5.) Keep a Journal
Keep a running journal for your benefit/child’s benefit. Write down communication between you and the other parent, visiting hours, money spent, keep track of appointments and other important facts and events.
(6.) Finally, Consult a Lawyer
A one hour consultation with an attorney could save emotional energy and even money down the road. This isn’t something you want to go through alone.
